When we need fast internet connection, we usually adopt a broadband
connection which offers higher speed. Even using faster Broadband
connection you might not get great speed in the case when you are
browsing or using torrents.This usually happens because of DNS provided
by your ISP. When you type an internet address in your web browser (like www.baatkar.com), the request first goes to the DNS servers of your local ISP. These "Domain Name Server" will translate the web URL into some hard to remember numeric address (like 69.103.9.105), while this domain name to IP address conversion occurs in the background and is completely transparent to the average internet users.
If the DNS server of your ISP is offline for some reason, you will not be able to access the internet unless you are aware of the numeric IP address of the website that you want to visit. To overcome such problems, you may perform a small trick in your internet connection settings and web pages will load considerabily faster. You can use any of the following methods to overcome this problem and improve your web surfing speed.
Before you change your DNS settings, be sure to write down the current server addresses or settings on a piece of paper. It is very important that you keep these numbers for backup purposes, in case you need to revert to them at any time.
1. Google Public DNS : To use Google's Public DNS service or OpenDNS, you'll need to configure your router or computer to use their DNS servers addresses.
The Google Public DNS IP addresses (IPv4) are as follows:
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4
The Google Public DNS IPv6 addresses are as follows:
2001:4860:4860::8888
2001:4860:4860::8844
You can configure Google Public DNS addresses for either IPv4 or IPv6 connections, or both.
2. OpenDNS : We can change the DNS server name to point to a more reliable and free service called OpenDNS. Other than improved speed, OpenDNS helps you surf the web more safely by auto-correcting misspelled domain names.
The DNS server can be changed from the TCP/IP Properties section. [Control Panel -> Network Connections -> Local Network Connection -> TCP IP Properties]. You will see a setting called “Use the following DNS Server Addresses” – Type the following values for the preferred and alternate DNS Servers respectively.
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
Check the box "Validate settings upon exit" and click on OK.
3. DNS Benchmark : DNS Benchmark bundled with a list of all popular public DNS servers and automatically includes the DNS server that are being used by host system. After you run the small program just click on Run Benchmark. It will automatically test all the name servers present in the list for performance.
It also offers a helpful summary and list of recommendations based on the result of the benchmark. DNS Benchmark used with OS like Windows, Linux and Mac.
