When you buy a new computer or laptop, you want to transfer collection of movies, games, music and photos from your old computer or friend's laptop. You can transfer files from old computer to new laptop by using traditional methods such as
1. Copy files from one computer and paste it on another computer with the help of USB drive (Pen Drive).
2. Remove your old HDD drive from computer and connect it to new PC for file transfer.
The above methods are time taking and require a lot of effort.
You can transfer files from PC to laptop, PC to PC, and Laptop to Laptop with the help of LAN cable. Here is step by step to transfer files from one machine to another.
1. Connect one computer to another using LAN cable.
2. You have to enable sharing option on both computers. Go to Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center > Advanced Sharing Settings.
Make sure you turn on network detection and turn off password protection and click on save changes.
Note : You can transfer files on the same network with the help of Network Sharing. In this process you don't need LAN cable, just connect your computers to Internet and share files.
3. Bring both the computers on the same network, Go to Control Panel > Network and Internet > > Network Connections, you will see local area connection, right click on it and navigate to properties. Now click on TCP/IVP4 option here and select its properties.
Put the following IP address, Subnet Mask and Default Gateway in both the computers and click on ok.
1st Computer settings
Ip address 192.168.1.1
Subnet mask 225.225.225.0
Default gateway 192.168.1.3
2nd computer settings
Ip address 192.168.1.3
Subnet mask 225.225.225.0
Default gateway 192.168.1.1
4. You will see the two computer name in the Networks.
5. Now select the folder you want to share on 1st computer and right click on it > share with > specific people. On the drop down menu select everyone > add > click share.
6. To see shared folder on 2nd computer, click on Computer > Networks and select the 1st computer. You find the shared folder, just copy and paste it on 2nd computer.
